5 Steps to Getting to the First Page on Google with Any Keyword [Case Study]
People say, SEO is not an exact science.
That is, they cannot guarantee that the website or content they make can go to page 1 on Google.
Or even be ranked 1.
Although he said the content was quality.
Then on the other hand there is bad content, not quality, but it can rank 1 to beat better websites.
Because of this, many consider SEO a chancy.
But not true.
There are ways that we can do to guarantee 100% of the keywords that we seek to go to page 1, even to rank 1.
I will open all the secrets.
There are ways that we can SURE enter page 1, here are some case studies ...
On blogs and forums about IM, I often see people selling ebooks or SEO services that they say can "force" Google so that we become ranked 1.
As if our website could be ranked 1st in an instant.
Usually fake ...
... mostly it's just basic SEO techniques or black hat techniques that have a high risk.
But there really is. There are ways that we can definitely go to page 1 of Google. I don't say it's easy, but it can.
This ranks some content in Guide:
This site also gives you more insight than you think: ExcuZily
Rank 1 for the keyword "business opportunity" with a search volume of more than 60 thousand. This article also gets a 1-2 rating for the keyword "business opportunity" (20 thousand).
Rank 2 for the keyword "online business" with a search volume of more than 60 thousand.
Rank 2 for the keyword "how to create a blog" with a search volume of more than 100 thousand.
Di komputer anda mungkin posisinya berbeda 1-3 peringkat, karena tiap komputer berbeda-bedaThere is still more, but the above are some of the ones with high competition and search volume.
There are 3 things I need to tell:
- I don't spend a penny to use SEO, backlinks, SEO contests, etc. Everything is done alone
- I don't use black hat techniques like making PBNs, zombie blogs, and / or backlink-making software
- Until entering page 1, the content above takes between 2-5 months
... and can be done by everyone.
I did not say that this method is very easy, but I am sure this can be done by everyone if they want a little effort.
Let's start.
1. Find out what type of content is needed for the keywords you choose
Content is not just an article, right?
But because the article is the easiest type of content, usually people always create content in the form of articles for any keyword.
This is dangerous.
Google knows what content is needed for a keyword.
If for example in a keyword it turns out that the content needed in the form of product pages, videos, or tools, then the article content will not be able to get rank 1.
Although the quality of the article is high.
This has been discussed further in the guide to understanding the search intent. If you haven't read it, I suggest reading it now too.
Simply like this:
For example, the keyword "buy an Asus laptop"
People who use these keywords definitely want to buy a laptop with an Asus brand, not want to find articles that contain a guide to buying a laptop.
Then this includes the transactional type keyword.
So, the search results with these keywords must be product pages from online stores.
We will see:
None of them are in the form of articles. Almost all product pages or page categories from online stores.
Another example, keyword "airplane ticket promo"
Here are the search results:
So if you make an article containing an airplane ticket promo, it will never enter page 1.
Therefore, don't make the content wrong.
If your website is an e-commerce / online store ...
f your website is an e-commerce / online store ...
Additional 1 thing, if you are an online shop owner.
Usually online stores target keywords with a transactional intent (buy a laptop, buy batik clothes, etc.) like the first example.
Online shop owners usually want the product page to be ranked first.
But there is one problem:
Transactional keywords are usually met by ecommerce and giant marketplace like Lazada, BukaLapak, Tokopedia, Bhinneka etc.
The competition is heavy, especially for general products.
Well, if your online store only targets transactional keywords, it will be very difficult to get to page 1.
Especially if you do not want to spend on promotions like these giants.
Therefore, this is my suggestion:
Make content that is information and content in accordance with the products / services you sell.
Can be in the form of articles, videos or other content.
The point is that your website is valuable.
This is because the information content can be shared through other people's social media, forums or blogs, while the product pages are very rare.
Because our website is valuable and often shared, Google will consider our website a good reputation.
After that, the product page rank will also go up.
There are other benefits: content can also help increase sales.
2. Understand the factors that influence ranking on Google
Those who are familiar with SEO must immediately answer: "Backlink".
It's true, backlinks are indeed the main factor ...
... but it's not that simple.
Backlinks can indeed affect a website's ranking, but NOT ALL backlinks can affect ranking. Even if it's wrong, the effect is negative.
The backlink is not the same for all.
The types are different, the quality is also different.
Before that, let us first discuss what factors have no effect and can have a negative impact. So that you do not misstep.
This is not influential and can even have a negative effect:
- Use bold / italic / underline in keywords
- Write keywords several times in content
- Many headings (H1, H2, H3, ...) containing keywords
- Share automatic content to social media
- Install backlinks in blog comments, social bookmarking, guest books, and the like
- Make backlinks from web 2.0, Private Blog Network (PBN), and zombie blogs
I often get questions from readers, the keyword must appear several times on one page ... the heading must contain how many keywords ... there must be how many internal links ...
... don't be too dizzy with that, not too influential.
Regarding backlinks, the number 5 type is no longer influential while number 6 can potentially cause penalties.
More about backlinks can be read in this article.
That's not good ... now let's discuss a good one.
Keyword in URL & page title
There is on-page SEO, there is off-page SEO. For on-page SEO (other than keyword research and content creation), there really isn't much we need to do.
Focus on these 2 things only.
So if you choose keywords such as "learning presentations", then include these keywords in the page title and in the URL.
Don't waste too much time on on-page SEO, especially if your website is simple (blog for example).
Contextual and editorial backlinks from websites with high reputation
Wow, the term makes me dizzy.
I said there were many types of backlinks, some of which were not mentioned above.
These are the types of backlinks that can dramatically increase your website ranking. Even if you only have 1.
Understanding first:
Contextual backlinks are backlinks that appear on a section of a website that discusses a particular topic. For example in articles about football there are links to other websites, meaning that the link includes contextual backlinks on the topic of football.
Editorial backlink means that backlinks are given at the will of the website owner himself. Not because of rewards (money, barter, etc.), but because they really want to recommend your website / content.Understand carefully ...
Simply put, there is 1 fundamental difference between good backlinks and bad ones:
Good backlinks are provided by others of their own volition. While the less good backlinks that we make ourselves.
Oh yes, you might have heard that someone said that we have to get tens or hundreds of backlinks to get into page 1 of Google.
Not true.
If the backlink is high quality, we can rank 1 with only 1-2 backlinks.
The articles in the Guide in the screenshots that I show above above only get 5 on average, some even lack.
If you have got hundreds of backlinks but haven't entered page 1, then the backlink is wrong.
Factor of visitor satisfaction
This is an important factor, but often overlooked.Let's get logic ...
Google is a business, they have rivals (Bing, DuckDuckGo, etc.).
How do you do it so they can excel from their rivals? It's easy, how to provide satisfying search results for its users.
Is that right?
If we, as users not satisfied with Google, will move to other search engines for a long time.
So Google will always try so that the search results that are raised are satisfying for us, so we don't switch to other products.
Okay, but how to be satisfied?
Show websites that don't look frustrating, the loading isn't slow, and if it's opened from mobile, give it a mobile-friendly one.
And 1 more important:
Website with the highest quality content.
If satisfied, it means good.
If not, increase it again.
3. Create content that can invite backlinks (with 8 of these recipes)
This stage may seem complicated, make it complicated, or too excessive, especially if you are still a beginner. But understand carefully, because this is the key. From the explanation above, we have agreed that contextual & editorial backlinks are the biggest effect.
But let's think again ...
... why do people still like to look for backlinks by submitting to social bookmarking, guest books, blog comments, and black hat techniques when it's not good?
There are 2 reasons:
First, because it's easy.
Just submit directly to get backlinks.
Even though it's not too. It's difficult, because the effect is very small. So you have to submit to hundreds or thousands of new websites the effect starts to appear
(even if you have not been penalized).
Second, because no one wants to provide a backlink.
If you are a website owner (especially a blogger), you know what I mean. Every time you make an article, no one at all wants to provide a backlink.
I was like that too ...
So instead of zero backlinks, you can submit to social bookmarking, blog comments, etc ...
This is what we will discuss now.
For that, there is one thing you must understand first:
Naturally, try to imagine:
Somewhere there is a blogger you don't know. This blogger makes articles that are mediocre, nothing special ...
... will you as a website owner be willing to give backlinks?
Impossible.
Why also give backlinks, right ... the content is normal ...
So that's why we need 8 of these recipes.
8 of these recipes if we use, our content will be amazing. Better, interesting, quality, than other content. More special.
So that our content has a great opportunity to get backlinks.
This is it:
Recipe 1 - Topics that can be used as references
A few days ago I chatted with some of my friends in one group, chatting about web programming.
Then came the terms "front-end" and "back-end".
Then someone asks what the meaning is.
This if explained completely will be long.
Because we are chatting, lazy is typing long.
Then in order to be easy, one of the people in this chat group put a link to an article containing the terms and explanations of the 2 terms.
That is the purpose of "topics that can be used as references".
The article is recommended because it can help explain something.
The story above is not a backlink, but the case applies:
Suppose there is a blogger who writes articles, he needs to explain something that is not too related to the main topic. Instead of writing at length, he can recommend your content as a reference.
When recommended by someone else, we get a backlink.
So, choose a topic that can be used as a reference.
Recipe 2 - Contains reliable data / statistics
Alex Turnbull in his article on Buffer states that (title) articles containing data get more readers than those who don't.
The difference is up to 42%:
Well, if we provide data, then the data can be quoted by other people.
When the data is quoted, they will provide a backlink.
(as I did just now to show the data above)
Another example, see this article from Tech in Asia:
See the backlink:
When viewed, these backlinks come from people who cite the data they listed in the article.
So, by including data we can get backlinks.
The question is, how to get / create data?
Here are some of the easiest ways:
- Perform online surveys with Google Forms, spread to online communities
- Do an analysis of something on your own website / business
- Quote data from other websites, don't forget to include the source
Recipe 3 - Pride of personal identity
To explain the point, I will use an example.
For example, if I am a Bonek (a supporter of the Persebaya club), then I read this article from IDNTimes:
I will share it.
People who are proud of their identity as Bonek will share the article with their friends on social media.
Because they are proud, and they want their friends to know that they are proud.
That is what happened in the article.
Just look at the number of shares ... 8500
Crazy.
That's the reason why content that contains personal or group identities is very popular. Because people with that identity feel proud and want to look positive.
Recipe 4 - More complete than others
See this graph:
The image is the result of an analysis of Moz on the length of the article they published on his blog.
Apparently, long articles tend to get a lot of backlinks.
The logic is like this:
Imagine there are articles A and B, the topic is the same, the style of writing is the same.
Article A only discusses points with a brief explanation. Whereas article B explains in detail the steps, accompanied by pictures, examples to be clear and easy to understand.
Then your friend needs information about the topic.
Which article would you recommend?
B, sure.
... that's the reason.
That's what I did in the SEO guide article which is now ranked number 1 on Google. These are the chapters in it:
Before this, there had never been an article in Indonesian that discussed the full range of SEO from A-Z.
If people want to learn SEO, they usually have to open several blogs, forums, or search on English-language sites.
Therefore, I made the guide.
The total is approximately 10,000 words.
The result, about 2-3 months later the guide ranked first on Google.
Recipe 5 - The contents can be immediately applied
Let's test memory ...
... what was the news in the newspaper that you read yesterday?
Some people I ask this question usually forget, some just remember after a few seconds / minutes.
Why can you forget?
Because most of the articles in the newspaper do not have any impact on our lives. Although the contents are good, but they have no significant impact.
So in a day I have forgotten.
Now imagine the content on your website like the example above.
If website visitors have forgotten your website, they will not be able to recommend your website.
Differ from the following case:
At the end of 2014, I accidentally met a video that taught me a quick way to tie shoelaces.
Here's the video:
Then I tried to follow the guidelines, it was indeed faster than the way I had done so far.
Since watching the video until now, the way I tie the shoelaces has changed to be exactly as taught.
This is an example of "workable content".
If your content can be directly applied by visitors, they will always remember your website.
Like the video above, it's been almost 2 years but I still remember.
Recipe 6 - Build positive relationships with other website owners
Imagine this case:
There are 2 people who need help from you. The condition of the request is exactly the same. The difference is, one of your best friends, the other is unknown.
You can only help 1 person.
Which one will you help?
Naturally my own friends ...
We as humans tend to be more willing to help people we know well, even though the demand is heavier.
This also applies to backlinks.
We want to get backlinks from other website owners, right?
Then you must establish a positive relationship with them. If they know you, then they will be more willing to provide backlinks.
How? We start from our own content.
That is by giving backlinks first through your content to their content.
This is an example:
In the article I want readers to understand how to create an online store with WordPress.
Therefore, I recommend articles from Dapur Uang because they are the most complete contents compared to others.
Not long after, Mas Eka Juan, the owner of Dapur Uang, posted a link to my website too:
Recipe 7 - Have valuable assets
All chase websites make articles.
As a result, people are bored with just articles. Just look at the Facebook and Twitter timelines, all article links.
The article is "weak".
If your content is only in the form of articles, only letters without the others, then your content is weak. Especially because it is not attractive and is too general.
That's why articles should always be supported by more valuable assets.
This is what I mean:
- Pictures, photos, infographics
- Video
- Tool, software, app
- Data / statistics (discussed earlier)
- PDF files: ebook, checklist, etc.
- Templates, plugins
Everything is more difficult to make than just an article, but the results will also be much higher.
From the list above, in my opinion the easiest ones are numbers 1 and 5.
According to Neil Patel of Quicksprout, infographic content averages 37.5% more backlinks than regular articles.
Even just the snapshot itself is better.
See the following screenshot:
Indonesian bloggers like to use images taken from other websites. Well, when this image is used, they will list the source.
When your image is used, you get a backlink.
Other examples, templates (eg blog templates).
Mas Sugeng from Sugeng.id often shares free templates through his blog. As a result, many provide backlinks to their blogs.
This is sorted by number of backlinks:
The number of shares is quite a lot.
In the article I mentioned that bloggers should avoid using AdSense as a source of income.
Then the article is shared with the AdSense community.
As a result, many people in the group commented on it.
There is something positive, something negative.
Some people who agreed with my statement then recommended the article through his blog.
So that the article goes to page 1 of Google:
Even though I never found a backlink.
Pay attention to a few of these when creating content controversy:
- Topics and contents must be positive for one party
- Don't be nonsense, it will damage your own reputation
- All statements that you make must be reasonable and can be proven
In essence, your content is not just looking noisy.
There must be people who agree with your thinking.
For example, if you make an article that contains disappointment with a product, the content must really happen. Not just bullshit.
That's 8 recipes to create content that can invite backlinks.
Not everything must be included in a content, but the more the better.
Apart from these 8 things, there is 1 more that is required:
4. Make higher quality content than on page 1 Google
Suppose I want to learn to play guitar.
Then I look for the tutorial on Google.
It turns out that at number 1 there is a complete, easy to understand guide, complete with pictures, videos and training materials. This is the best guide now.
Then there is a blogger who targets that keyword too.
He made 1 article, entitled "How to Learn to Play Guitar".
In this article there are only short tips, without tutorials, without images, without videos. There are only 500 words in writing.
If you have studied guitar, you must know that 500 words is not enough to explain how to play the guitar.
Well, the question:
Logically, is it possible for this blogger's 500-word article to defeat the content already on page 1?
It's almost impossible ...
... except if somehow he can manipulate Google.
The complete content is definitely more recommended, get more backlinks, and are preferred by many people.
This is why quality is number 1.
We have seen above that there are 8 recipes to get backlinks. If the content you make is not more quality than it already is, all the recipes are in vain.
Now we will learn how to create quality content.
How?
With the KTP method.
In short, here are the 3 steps you will take to create content based on the method:
- Gather the best articles on the same topic
- Increase the contents so that our articles become the best
- Promote the right person (discussed in point 5 below)
Now we will discuss numbers 1 and 2 first.
To be easier to understand, I will use the SEO guide from Guide as a case study. This article is ranked number 1 for the keyword "learn SEO"
Case study: the process of creating an SEO guide article
We first analyze the main keyword: "learn SEO".
What is clear, people who do a search with this keyword definitely want to learn, not buy a course or SEO services.
This keyword needs content in the form of a guide, it can be an article, ebook, or video. I choose the easiest one to make, namely the article.
Step 1 - Gather articles on the same topic
This is a mandatory stage. Even though you already understand what you will write, you still need to find other articles on the same topic.
The goal:
- In order to know what material needs to be discussed
- In order to know how high the content is on page 1, so we can make something better
That's why I'm looking at Google with the keyword "learn seo".
Then all the websites on the first page I recorded in Google Sheets (can also be in Excel), along with the information.
Here's the note:
The result is not satisfactory.
There is no guide that is truly structured from the ground to completion.
If I'm someone who wants to learn SEO, then the five websites don't seem to be able to make me really understand.
Meaning:
- The opportunity to be ranked 1 is wide open, because I'm sure I can make better content
- Articles in the search results cannot be used as a benchmark
Because of that, I turned to the English keyword "seo guide".
Much better:
The five contents that I make are benchmarks.
Especially 2 articles from Moz and QuickSprout which are now often used as a place for recommendations to start learning SEO.
In this stage, imagine you want to learn ...
... thus you can know what the advantages and disadvantages of each content are.
Step 2 - Create a better content structure
After reading various SEO guides in these 2 languages, I can know what is good and what is not good.
I can also know what material should be discussed and not discussed.
After that, the structure is arranged:
So that the quality is better, then I make it so:
- The material is more complete than others in B. Indonesia
- Can be directly applied by the reader
- The format is better to read
- There are assets in the form of downloadable PDF files
Of the 8 recipes above, 3 of them are included in the SEO guide that I made.
That is why this article can be ranked 1st.
Be careful at this stage:
If you make an article in Indonesian and use English articles as a benchmark (as I did earlier), DO NOT make a translation article.
Always make different and better content.
If you directly translate from English, it will not be able to enter page 1 because there is a high probability that someone else has translated as well.
Will be considered as duplicate content.
Tips for ecommerce websites
I explained earlier what an e-commerce website must do; making information content, so that the website is valuable for visitors.
There is one more thing:
Make your product page better than other websites.
For example, provide good photos, interesting product explanations (not the origin of copy-paste), show reviews from buyers, and give "assets" in the form of discount coupons.
The point is to make them more satisfied when visiting.
5. Promote content to enter page 1
I emphasize the word until.
This is a brief conversation that really happened on Facebook between me (D) and a reader (P):
P: Sir, I have already made quality content according to what was taught in Guide, but how come I haven't been on page 1 for more than a month?
D: Has the content been promoted?
P: Already mas
D: How is the promotion?
P: I post on Facebook, Twitter, Google+
D: Is that it?
P: Yeah that's just it
These kinds of questions I often receive via Facebook or e-mail from readers.
Anyone know where the fault is?
Too short!
Content promotion is not a one-time job ...
The higher the competition, the longer the content promotion process should be. Even if you need it for months.
Until the target is reached, page 1.
(but it doesn't have to be every day ... as long as you don't abandon it)
For example, one of the articles in this guide takes 3 months from the time it was made to page 1 of Google:
Since it was published until it entered page 1, for 3 months the promotion continued regularly.
I will not discuss all the content distribution techniques in this guide, because it will be too long ...
... therefore, please go to the following 3 guidelines:
- 13 content promotion techniques (don't skip the concept)
- Case study: increase blog visitors to 419%
- 14 + 7 ways to get quality backlinks
The three articles must be understood if you want to be ranked 1st on Google.
But don't read all at once, mostly.
Because this article is a case study, I will discuss which techniques are most effective when I use Guide:
Make your own community on social media
When Guide is still new, around the first 2-3 months, I try to make my own community on Facebook.
The results were amazing.
This Facebook group was first created to get more than 2000 members in 1-2 days.
This is what I did:
- Create a group on Facebook
- Search for other groups active in the same topic
- Create content in the form of files (PDF, videos, etc.)
- Post the content in your own group
- Tell the content to other groups, invite them to join your group to download the content
If your audience is not a Facebook user, the alternatives are Google+, BBM, Line @, Instagram, etc.
You can also try more than 1 if you have a lot of time.
In the group that I made, every time I posted a new link there were around 300-500 visitors to this website.
Not bad right?
Confused where to start? Do this
That's all the strategy.
No matter how difficult the competition is, you can certainly enter page 1 if all of the above strategies are carried out correctly.
Now we conclude everything together.
Actually this article was intended to be short, but for some reason it is long because there are many concepts that need to be discussed.
Simply put, this sequence works:
Step 1: Determine 1 topic content or keywords that you want to target to get rank 1. Find out what type of content is the best for those keywords.
Step 2: Record the top 5 content on page 1 of Google, write down the points / material in the content. Also note the advantages.
Step 3: Plan your own content, the material must be of higher quality.
Step 4: Select some of the 8 recipes that can be used in the content to get backlinks.
Step 5: Create the content. Don't rush, good content takes more than 1-2 days. Make sure this content is the best than it already is.
Step 6: Plan the promotion. Create a list of websites for guest posts, find the right community, etc.
Step 7: Perform promotions regularly (once a week, twice a week, up to you) until the target is reached
Finally, if anyone wants to be asked about this guide, or if you already have a shadow of the content you want to create, please write in the comments. We discuss together.
